Chaintech R&D Center Overview

Chaintech places strong emphasis on R&D and has established an R&D center in China at Shenzhen for developing group products. R&D is the foundation of the company, the commitment to innovation has seen the Chaintech R&D center make an immense contribution to product differentiation by developing a series of proprietary functions that helped Chaintech rise above the intense competition. 

      The R&D center has professional staff, including hardware engineers, software engineers, UI designers and ID designers. Our staff is experienced in product R&D and design. By continuing to communicate with customers and the development of new, high-quality products and technologies that meet market requirements, the Chaintech R&D center has become one of the fastest product R&D centers in the industry. Key areas of development for Chaintech today are graphics cards, mainboards, All-in-One PCs, computers and other peripheral devices, portable Hi-Fi and tablet PCs.




Personal Computer Accessory Research & Development

      Colorful serves as Chaintech's strategic platform and is supported by the Chaintech R&D center through the development of PC branded peripherals such as "Colorful Graphics Cards" and "Colorful Mainboards". The R&D center has developed other products of high interest to meet market developments, including the iGame and Xstorm series of graphics cards as well as the "War Banner" series of mainboards. These series of products have won heated support of high-end users around the world through their unique functionality and dependable quality. 




All-In-One PC

The Chaintech R&D center has been involved with the R&D of All-in-One PCs since its establishment, with the goal of crafting multi-purpose living room PCs. R&D efforts have focused on X86 hardware running the Windows operating system and ARM hardware running the Android operating system. The ultimate goal is to enable individual users to set up their own "Cloud" system.




Portable Hi-Fi and Tablets  

The development of the portable Hi-Fi player is an example of the successful partnership with the Colorfly brand that has attracted numerous high-end users in the West and in China. The C4 hand-carved wooden portable 24-bit Hi-Fi device, the first of its type in the world, has won countless domestic and foreign prizes. Even today the C4 remains one of the most popular products among audio Hi-Fi enthusiasts today.

The R&D center subsequently worked on the integration of Hi-Fi and tablets. More than ten tablet models have been progressively released since the start of 2013.





Chaintech R&D Center Technologies

1. One Key OC

One Key Overclocking (ONE KEY OC) is an overclocking implementation where a button is used to toggle between a lower and higher BIOS frequency on a graphics card. One Key OC technology makes overclocking accessible to beginners and offers a user-friendly way for enthusiasts to increase graphics card performance. All the graphics cards designed by Chaintech include a button near their interface. To overclock, the user simply switches between the low and high-frequency BIOS by pressing down on the button or making it pop up.  Pushing down on the button sets the graphics card to low-frequency mode while making the button pop up sets it to high-frequency mode. The PCB of the GTX650 Ti Flame Wars X graphics card is an example of the low/high-frequency dual-bios design. In low-frequency mode, the graphics card has a core frequency of 928 MHz and memory frequency of 5400 MHz. When the button is popped up, the core/memory frequencies are 1046/5800MHz. Performance is increased by at least 20% and greatly boosts the graphics card's gaming power.


2. Shark Bio-mimetics

The graphics card's Heatsink-Fan (HSF) units mimic the design of sharks. The "form", "color" and "structure" of ocean's killers were analyzed and selectively applied during the design phase. The results of bio-mimetic research were also integrated to offer new concepts, principles, techniques and approaches during design. The shark-inspired HSF features shark grills, breathing lights, ICS 2.0 dual-flow system and Air-Kit upgrades. Together, they deliver a highly effective and low-noise cooling system for Chaintech designed graphics cards. The GTX 670 Flame Wars X graphics card, for example, uses the 2nd generation shark-based HSF. In addition to the nine 6mm high-performance heatpipes, there is also one 6mm heatpipe slot for reserved for the Air-Kit expansion module. Enthusiasts can install upgrades based on their own cooling requirements, improving scalability and boosting cooling performance by at least 20%.


3. SPT Ultra-Much Silver Plating PCB

The SPT Ultra-Much Silver Plating PCB is one of the three key technologies used on Chaintech graphics cards. Chaintech is the only graphics marker to use the high-cost Ultra-much Silver Plating Technology (SPT) and exceeds the industry standard in the amount of silver used. SPT offers advantages over copper plating, Organic Solderability Preservative (OSP) and immersion tin technologies currently used in the industry on graphics card PCBs. The use of silver plating for the contact between each component and the PCB circuit layer ensures the speed of each contact for millions of operations, enhancing stability and performance during overclocking. At a temperature of 20, silver, copper and aluminum have an electrical resistance of 1.65x10-8Ω·m, 1.72x10-88Ω·m and 2.8x10-88Ω·m, respectively, so silver is more conductive. When it comes to heat transfer, metallic silver has a far higher thermal conductivity than copper or aluminum as well.  iGame graphics cards with SPT PCBs excel not only in electrical conductivity but offer an advantage in thermal conduction and dissipation as well.


4. Dual-Chip Overclocking

As the name suggests, Dual-Chip Overclocking (Dual Chip OC) incorporates two overclocking chips into the mainboard that are used for fine-tuning the voltage and frequency of the CPU, memory and chipset. "Dual Chip" consists of two W83L604G OC control chips to create. One chip controls the CPU's linear frequency and the chipset frequency limits as well as the voltage range. The other controls the memory voltage range and timing. The chips have been progressively refined to ensure that these key components in overclocking complement rather than interfere with each other for better performance and stability while offering a greater range of options for fine-tuning the BIOS voltage and frequency. Dual Chip OC technology can be observed in the mainboard BIOS options. New BIOS options include VTT1.2 Voltage, VCC1.5 Voltage, MCH GTL Reference and GPU GTLx Reference. CPU voltage can be increased by up to 100% in increments as fine as 0.001V. The high-frequency signal circuit design of the memory has also been optimized to increase the memory over-voltage range to 0.775V. Adjustments can be as fine as 0.005V as well. The increased Northbridge operating voltage helps to enhance its stability at higher frequencies. With the introduction of Dual Chip OC technology, Chipset (Northbridge) voltage can be increased by up to 0.21V in steps of 0.03V. 



5. Digital Audio Technology

                                                      C4's Proprietary Jitter Kill Technology 

Digital audio is based on the sampling of a continuous analog signal at discrete points in time. The accuracy of sampling and playback timing has a major impact on Analog-to-Digital Conversion (ADC) and Digital-to-Analog Conversion (DAC) quality. In reality, some variations in timing are unavoidable and this is known as "Jitter". Our ears are particularly sensitive to audio quality, so digital audio requires extremely accurate clock timing.

The Colorfly Pocket HIFI C4 is the first portable Hi-Fi player to deliver 24 bit/192 KHz performance. It also incorporates patented Jitter Kill technology and a premium temperature-compensated crystal oscillator is used in the Jitter Kill module to eliminate jitter at the source. When used with the C4 clock generator, Jitter is reduced to within 5 pico-seconds. This is far lower than the 50 pico-second limit that can be achieved by human hearing. Mainstream players (such as the iPod) for example are all in the nano-second range. (1 pico-send = 1/1000 nano-second = 1/1000,000,000,000 second)

C4's has a jitter value of under 5 pico-seconds, far exceeding the limits of human hearing and delivering the "High Fidelity" expected of Hi-Fi. Combined with 24 bit/192 KHz playback, sampling rate conversion and high-powered ear amplifiers, everything that can interfere with good audio quality is reduced to a minimum to deliver a masterpiece of Hi-Fi engineering.

Production Standard

At Fortech Electronics, uncompromised quality control of each part of the process is achieved with advanced imported intelligent automation and control systems in combination with the strict quality control system established upon ISO9001:2008. We also have independent laboratories for EMC test, noise test, temperature test, and grid simulation test. All products are tested to comply with more than a dozen standards, such as FCC, CE, CSA, CB, etc and pass the RoHS certification.

Out testing equipment includes: 3D solder paste inspection system, 3D BGA testing system, paste spiral viscometer, automatic solder mixer, ultrasonic automatic stencil cleaner, PCB cutter, 2D tester, FFC press, AOI, ICT, DVB-T & DVB-S signal generators, Hi-POT tester, microscope, torque tester, tensile tester, constant temperature burn-in chamber, aging chamber, EEPROM Flash programmer, automatic gift-box folder, automatic scale, and lifter.

Global Framework

Chaintech has formed an alliance with Colorful to take advantage of its global sales platform to market Chaintech's ODM products through Colorful's national marketing centers in many different countries. In China, Shenzhen serves as the headquarters of the eight main domestic marketing centers and for international marketing. The Korean marketing center in Seoul is responsible for the Korean market, while the German marketing center in Hamburg, Germany, oversees the entire European market. Changes in the global market have led to new channel types that keep Colorful at the front of sales and marketing.




Conventional Channels

China sales are based out of the operations platform and image centers in Shenyang, Beijing, Nanjing, Xi'an, Chengdu, Wuhan, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. These are responsible for the main traditional market channels in China:

The horizontal hardware sales channel based on PC mainboards and graphics card. Chaintech has adopted a horizontal management model for PC hardware sales channel. The "Colorful" strategic platform, developed over 14 years, has over 300 core distributors and a channel network that covers 5,000 physical outlets in 660 cities in China. Horizontal management greatly increases product coverage and has made Colorful the undisputed PCB market leader in China. 

          



New Channels

Chaintech closely follows developments in the market and is keeping pace by working with Colorful to set up new channels.

1.   Sales channels based on e-commerce platform and online distributors.

E-commerce is growing several-fold every year in China. JD.COM, for example, is a fast growing e-commerce platform in China that generated transactions worth more than $60 Billion in 2012, making it the largest B2C e-commerce platform in China. Chaintech has formed a strategic partnership with e-commerce platforms such as JD.COM through Colorful and has made important differences to the Chinese e-commerce market.


"Taobao.com" is the main online distributor. This encompasses both C2C sales to distributors and B2C sales through TMALL.COM, Thanks to its unique C2C and B2C models, Taobao's total transactions in China exceeded more than 1 Trillion RMB in 2012. Using the Colorful strategic platform, Chaintech has set up direct and indirect partnerships with Taobao. The consolidation of the online distribution model has helped to create a comprehensive online distributor sales framework.



2.  Chain store strategy for China


Chaintech is using the Colorful strategic platform to roll-out its national franchise store system - "51 3C" shops. As of the end of 2012, there were more than 100 chain stores in China that focused on the sale of 3C electronic products. This channel model not only helped to integrate internal resources but also enabled Chaintech to form partnerships with other brands in the industry.


Future Business Strategy

Socio-economic developments means that Chaintech is no longer limited to existing fields. By using core assets as its base, Chaintech will invest in enterprises of a certain size that show long-term promise through strategic alliances or investments. This will help create an alliance with long-term goals and a stronger resource platform. Through continuous cultivation and improvement, long-term development can be used to forge the investment into the industry leader.

 

IT and Peripherals

The strategic partnership between Chaintech and Colorful has achieved a market share of 25% in China's PC graphics card and mainboard markets. The Colorful brand of graphics cards has held the market share crown since 2002 and is the industry leader in China. As for brand assets, Colorful's various brands all enjoy excellent word-of-mouth reputation and exposure, and these can be easily extended into other industries. In terms of channel assets, the Colorful brand has long-term sales channels throughout the world and subsidiaries in key regions to help realize Chaintech's short-term product strategy. The constant stream of new products that emerge from the Chaintech R&D Center is also laying the foundation for Chaintech's rise to the top of the IT and peripherals industry in the future.

 

Software Service Industry

Chaintech seeks to duplicate the Colorful business model by investing in the IT software service industry. The development of the gaming industry means that gaming platforms and marketing have become increasingly important in the global market. In 2012, China's gaming market achieved actual sales of 60.28 Billion RMB (IDC) and this is still growing at 70% a year. Related fields, such as gaming platforms and portals are therefore becoming vital. If existing channels can be used to invest in gaming platforms and Internet cafe software, Chaintech will master the future development of the software industry and lay the groundwork for future growth.
